My independent service learning Reflection

My experience for this year independent service learning hours, I would have to say it was great because I got the chance to get involved more in my community by participating in  my neighborhood saturday clean'up's and doing day care and baby sitting and helping clean around my church and those things I just mention meant so much for me because I never knew how it was to actually have fun while doing something for school just to help other's and I must say it was great very much a great experience for me to reflect on. Now that I've grown to see I wouldn't have wanted to do anything better for my hours because I learned a lot from it and it made me feel great knowing that I volunteered myself as a student from Constitution High school. Some of the activities I enjoyed most was Daycare, baby sitting, and Community clean up because the weather during the days I picked was very sunny not to hot not to cold just relaxing not to mention on the saturdays I did for the clean up made my legs hurt a little cause I was lifting heavy bags sweeping bending over picking trash up but the end of the day it payed off cause I think I lost 2 pounds. But my favorite activity was day care because I love the kids their just so funny and sweep and I liked the fact that I had to cook, watch over them, and create games and fun things for them to do and after that clean up this years service learning was just the best thing I've did all year and maybe hope to do it next year because it made me fill like a big kid again and that should be what giving back to the young generation should be like.

This is my service learning: On my thoughts like a Video tape but I didn't want to do a video so I posted this on here

Nutrition: Well so far my service learning experience for this year has been a complete disater in the beginning because the group members weren't really participating in anything. But now some of the things that are successful was going out for lunch to eat, and timing ourseleves to see if we makeit back on time was awsome and for 5/14/08 which was the day I made my petition on inproving school luches which was an idea from Ms. Lynn that I really took in consideration and it help me out a lot because I know everyone in the school is goingto want to sign it because we all want hot well prepared food to eat. Some of the challenges I faced in my group none so far after 6 meetings and I hopeI don't have to encounter any arguments because i'm just so sinceer about this service learning project that I can't focus on anything else but the improvement of the school lunch. Things I've learned so far was how to do food services, how to go travel to eat at restaurants during school, and how to make a petition. And different food restaurants food prices. Things that need to be worked on in our group is more research a data chart of some graph survey that we handed out 2 months ago which should change school lunching for next year.

5/28/08 service learning Reflection

On 5/28/08 for service learning me my staff Ms. Martin and group members had a full 90 minutes to go to a grocerie store and do some price ranches on the food as if we made a family of 4 and list where they worked and what would be their weekly salary and how much for would they need for all 4 people in total to a month so we ending up going to the red in terminal and I started doing my price ranges from there and the most sucessful thing about that day was everyone was seperated doing their own thing and everything was perfect and we got to leave on time so I wouldn't change nothing about that day that was one of the best days of our service group so I was happy because we actually got to do some hands on things outside of our school instead of being cooped up inside the main office.

5/15/08 Service learning Reflection

5/15/08 service learning meeting was okay me and my partner derelle had to speak up in the place of Ms. Martin our staff member because she was absent so we basically went over grades things we needed to improve on and more plans for next year and the ending of this year maybe we could plan to go out to eat. But some things that really need is the group members grades because I did this evaluation grading sheet on what I thought people should get as a finale grade and it wasn't really good some half of the group members had 1's in participation and behavior and they don't realize that this counts for a grade and it really can hurt all their regular grades so I hope they can pull it together and conclude some powerful information to the group because they think all they can do is sit at the meeting's talk and laugh then put up a big argument for grades thats why I won't be in this group next year because I feel we as a group having had the best times working together and this is not what I had in mind!!!! For the last meeting we all paln to go out to eat and just relax..

Mortif GRADE THIS ONE PLEASE:

Its 2 kinds of women in this world one is the smart, Independent, hardworking then it's the other one which is the lay on her back kinda women where as she has to use what she got to get what she wants.

Kinda something like one special female character in the book " Mice and Men" which was Curly's wife she was that type of girl who really uses what she got to get what she wants, she wanted to be she wanted to be a inspiring actress where she messed up is she let the movie produces promise her this and that glitters and gold just to get her in bed with them after that she never herd another word from those producers ever again which she started over again using what she got to get what she want where as she had to marry curly to have a better life but she came to realize she gained the other half of the stick with curly because he was self centered and arrogant and bossy and his wife was the type of girl who liked to be spoiled with attention and love or else she would go looking in other directions for them why's she tried to run through the farm house looking for someone to listen to her life story and what she wanted to do with her self a butch of if's and and's but's ect. Some of the corrective powers of womens would be there body parts I mean if we want a man or want the luxurious life styles all we have to do is put on a little perfume a nice tite fitting dress some open sandals maybe polish our nails and toes and get our hair done and go after who we want and we'll get him where we want them but all the time you do that is not always good because when you think your setting some body up you will get hurt like how she got stuck with a possesive man who thought he owned her and she wanted to know more men and ended up getting killed.

Theme Essay

Bamm there goes Lennie flying out the chair in the barn house from curly's left hook!!!
Wow I can't believe how the men characters in the book "Mice and Men" act like predators towards each other living on one farm must get really agravating knowing that you only get $50.00 dollars one pay. Then the boss son is an ediot and doen't know how to control his crazy temper but hey maybe that's what lennie was thinking to knowing that he didn't talk that much usually he thought most of the time one or the other. But who could of ever thought you could get into a fight all because you don't like tp talk. It started when lennie and george were in the farm house and a man walked in by the name of Curly's and said did you see my dad then george said he just left then curly said oh you the 2 guys who was supposed to be here 2days ago and george said "yeah that's us" and Curly said what's your name my name is george and then curly said i'm not talking to you i'm talking to the big guy can't he talk for him self then george said yeah then lennie said yeah we just came in the curly said okay well next time you speak when your spoken to! So there for curly attacked lennie like he was a lion on a zebra. Instead of him welcoming Lennie and George put them down so by that notice there was no love in curly's heart for anyone especially no big guys which he hated he always liked a challenge if you know what I mean. But through the book that's all it has been men vs. men and men vs society and every single character in this book has faced these problems.

Symbolism Essay

Oh my god step away from the puppies now!!! Poor Lennie who was one of best characters of the book "Mice and Men" along side him his one and only buddie George who basically took care of him and looked after him when lennie's aunt Calra died. There was something really special about this character Lennie he had this weird obbession with animals especially soft things he could pet. Once he found a mouse and he was so infactuated by how soft it was he didn't realize he had killed it. So after that insident George promised to get him something bigger to pet like a puppie so he could pet him as hard as he wanted to. But it really didn't do him any good because either way he killed the puppie to by petting it too hard maybe because he had no common sense to stop and think is he hurting the puppie. Besides it was all George fault because if he know's what lennie is capable of doing to a human why give him a puppie to put in harms way. Anyway they weren't ready to be petted because they were still babies and feeding off their mother.

Bloom's Taxonomy Question:Analysis

1) How was this book similar to Native Son? Well in comparison there was a lot of similarities like with the two main characters Lennie and Bigger they were both lost in society and mentally retarded had no real education of today's world all they thought about was their self and they really didn't love themselves that's why they ended up killing people cause they didn't have a heart nor did they belong in society. (Bigger Thomas killed Mary Dalton Lennie killed Curly's wife).

2) Could this have happened in the 70's? No not really because nobody was working on any forms unless they wanted to, and if anyone wasn't that bright far as books they were street smarty and had common sense. So basically in the 70's people started coming up off well fair food stamps etc.

3)What do you see as other possible outcomes of the book Mice and Men? Well other comes I thought about for this book I see Lennie, george , and Candy together for ever on their little farm house I see lennie tending to rabbits instead of him being dead over some girl who had bother him for attention just so he could comfort.

4) What was the problem with Lennie and George? Well george was basically looking after lennie because his aunt Clara died so he kinda took after lennie but the main problem was that lennie was mentally disable and where ever they went they couldn't stay there in peace.

5) Why did changes occur in the book? Because Curly's wife came along and wanted attention from all the men except her own husband and she prayed upon the wrong person which was lennie and she tried to tale to him about her personal life he couldn't even understand where she was coming from.

6)Would this information be useful if you had to write a report? Yes because the book itself is really self explanatory it breaks everything down from beginning to end.

7) What factors would you change if you change if you had to rewrite the book? Some of the factors I would change is Curly's wife I would of never made her talk to Lennie I would of set her up with slim so curly and slim can get into it over her. And I would let the old man die and just lennie and george get their own town house and live good maybe I would of switched lennie to the smart one and george to the dumb one.

8) What was the one turning point in the book? It would have to be my least favorite when lennie gets shot in his head by george for killing curly's wife because I thought they would always betogether.

9)What questions would you ask the author?

1) I would ask him why did he pick the characters he chose for the actors?
2) How did he plan to concept of the book?
3) How long did it take him to write this book?
4) Why was it so sad?

10) What were some of the motives behind the story? The character were because they brought the book to life if it wasn't for them the book wouldn't have been successful.

5/9/08 Service learning Reflection

On 5/9/08 on friday was our service learning meeting: And we had a guest which was ms.Lynn and she joined us because she had to put some input on our Nutrition group and little ideas we should consider and I learned a lot from the meeting. Some of the things that were successful and useful about the meeting was that everybody could focus without all the negative energy that flows around because certain group members weren't there and I see now it's better when certain people are gone and if it was up to me more people would be gone to! What challenges or problems did I encounter at the meeting the only problems that always been in the group were the members because they expect me as a group leader and the other 2 leaders to do all the work and then when it's time for the meeting they want to see what we have done then if it's not enough they want to get attitudes but don't want to help out in research like us and that is one of the most biggest problems in the group which is the members of the group. Things that needs to be worked on for the coming weeks is that I need to type up an petition to give to Dr. davison to let him know i'm serious about this group and I have to research and find more data for the group topic and seek more information.  My role that I play in the group every week is the recorder where I write down everything that is said and come up with new ideas.

Service Learning Reflection on 5/1/08

On 5/1/08  Me and the other students in the Nutrition group had planned a task where as we could see if we could go out for lunch and be back on time in the 30 minutes ,which we had  to skan in and skan out from going out to eat. And the majority of the students came back on time and to answer everyone's question no we did not have enough time to eat because once you walk to the restaurant half of the 30 minutes is already up and you have 15 minutes to order and  eat and god knows that's not enough time.

So my plan for next week is to see if our group could have some extra time to improve our task of the project we're trying to test and maybe change everything for good so we won't have any problems with lunch or the time we have to eat. So far yesterday went great I've got a great chance to really enjoy a hot meal and I can say I never focused better in my classes until we went out to eat and I felt well balanced as well as my fellow students i'm sure they enjoyed it as well.

My independent service learning ideas

For my independent service learning I would like to do some day care for this church around my neighborhood and help out with the kids like read to them prepare meals clean up after them provide toys snacks and fun activities for them to do and maybe even out door activities so those our my plans for my independent service learning.

4/25/08 service learning planning

Last week we planned to type up this letter advising parents for permission to allow their kids in this service learning to take a walking tour to different restaurants and sample different foods and get their range prices and get information on how many calories in the restaurant is being served a day, and also we plan to talk to our group members about their behavior because if they can't handle the meetings we have what makes people think we going to be seen in public with if they can't control them selves as 10th and 9th graders and be mature about things.

4/25/08 Service learning meeting Reflection

On friday 4/25/08 we the nutrition group once again met down stairs in the lunch room to talk about new ideas we had and plans we wanted to do for lunch like going out to eat and finding restaurants where there was reasonable prices and all their calories served in each meal of the food and other things for the future.....etc.

But only one problem people in the group are still unsure if they want to be in the group at all and some had questions to  why am I a team leader as well as my other two people Derelle and Micheal, and I said because we came up with the idea and one 10th and 9th grader said "you guys don't know what your doing you shouldn't be leading it" And i'm thinking in the back of head you say all that out your mouth won't you take it over and do a better job than me so my reflection is I didn't like how the meeting went  at all it was totally disrespectful as always and i'm just plain sick of it and the people in my group and I would like to change over into another group.

Service learning/ Nutrition Reflection

on 4-17-08 the meeting for our nutrition group actually went really great I mean me as one of the leaders of the group started off a conversation on who wanted to stay in the and who didn't and everyone seemed okay with the group and put forth some new ideas along with our plans to tour outside for lunch. So we also discussed that the goal of our group was to change our food source and get better food we didn't ask for nutrition, anyway it's our discision on what we eat so there for if we continue to eat the slop we eat now is very fatty so why should we be lecture if we decide to change our lunch to benefit us. I mean it would really help us focus because we had a full balanced meal not some chessy space meal for a 1st grader....... So that's what we discussed and for the second meeting it went great compared to the first meeting.

English/ Essay

Intro: In some point in your life you don't realize a good thing until its gone: Once there was a little boy named jamie who was born in Britain but raised in china by his parents who were very well wealthy all around, so there for the little boy could basically get what he wanted. But he wasn't greatful enough to understand his blessing in which that case he became a spoiled bratt because he was used to the good life he didn't respect nothing or no one, like when his maid came down stairs in to the kitchen to see what was all that noise he say" fix me something to eat" the maid replies back your mother said she doesn't want you eating after 8:00 and he said well you work for me and i'm hungry which was disrespectful for a child at the age 9 years old to speak to an adult like that. 3 weeks later china attacts and everyone in china or japan get's seperated from their family and friends I mean everyone lost there big and beautiful houses and cars because of the deadly war and one of those families was jamie family who lost everything and got pushed into the crowd but jamie and his mom were together while the father was being pushed around and yelled out to his wife don't let jamie's hand go.................
Being the hard headed little bratt he is he dropped his toy airplane and let his mother's hand go just to go back and get it, it caused him a rough and sad life for 5 whole years of no parenting and love and attention so therefore he had to learn to bind with strangers and become a man which means means he had to hustle for a soggie plate of food and he even had to learn that every man is for himself.......5 years later after all the years of the tears and warring all around the country he finally got reconnected with his parents and I would say as a message to him " Never take life or the good things in it for granted">>>>.

Nutrition Reflection

On 4-10-08 which was friday the meeting did not go so well I mean the group members did not agree with the group nutritious idea I mean they really acted negative towards the plan anyway they acted if they couldn't wait to leave out of the group and I couldn't wait either.

After our first sell for the food I think we need to order ketchup packet's and other food sources so we won't have to touch the food spreading so the students can pick their own food source just to sooth them because i'm happy once they're happy with our project trying to make a change and that's what me my partners Derelle and Micheal plan to do in the process.

Biology genetic mutation

A specific genetic mutation is a gene called OCA2 which is involved in the production of melanin the pigment that gives color to hair, eyes and skin. Blue eyes resulted of ancient genetic 'mutation', scientists believe they have tracked down the cause of the eye color of all blue eyed humans on the planet today. Originally we all had brown eyes said Hans Eiberg from the university of copenhagen. Which to be said that blue eye color must likely orginated from the near east area or northwest part of the black sea region, where the great argriculture migration to the northern part of Europe took place in the neolithic periods about 6-10,000 years ago. The mutation affected a gene called OCA2 and "literally' turned off the ability to produce brown eyes, the mutation in the adjacent gene does not switch off the OCA gene entirely but limit it's action, reducing the production of melanin in the iris of the eye brown eyes to be blue.

News paper Article(Native Son)

This book is about a young man name Bigger Thomas who is trying to find hiself in the ghetto street's of Chicago, but he just can't seem to do that cause he doesn't have enough education or enough self confidence to let his self know that it doesn't matter where you come it matter's about where your going, and how to escape that ghetto madness. All he had to do to avoid all that violence was just listen to his mom cause when your parent is giving advice you could never go wrong, like after his fight with Gus he finally decided to pick up on things and get that job that his mom has been nagging him about so he does just that come to find out he gets along with his boss Mr.Dalton and everything was going smooth until his crazy Daughter Mary came and introduced herself and started asking Bigger weird confusing questions and may I remind you he's not that educated and he does'nt have a clue of what a union is and he starts to hate her for that cause felt that she made him feel low as when he planned to rob old blums with the gang which he really didn't and had to fight gus that night so he wouldn't have to through that stress of being singled out as a punk and he start feeling that way about Mary just how she came off to him he couldn't take it so that's why he killed her.

Service learning/NHD Reflection pt.2

The things i've learned from service learning last year was that tutoring: is fun where as your being a teacher, and sometimes boring based on the hot days, then kinda educational to me cause when your a teacher you learn along with your students and reacting with each other. But through that experience I would never do that again cause it didn't interest me at all but through that whole process I learned if you put forth the effort at the end of the year you would notice if the kids I've tutored learned anything . Mainly because it depends on the teacher and I learned then that when your teaching a student you have to take time out and really be patient to see how fast the child can adapt and where is the source of error where as they need help.

This year I would like to do a Moral cause I really want to travel around and design my own arts and just to experience something totally new instead doing the same old things the nature of service learning to me working but enjoying the process at the same time. Cause it really seems complex more up my alley really interesting and I could do lot's of research so that's why I want to this cause seems like something to sum down and just work hard at I guess.

Brief Reflecton of NHD: My NHD this year is moving pretty fast but i'm feeling really good about it cause me and my partner's Derelle Ivery, and Porsha Moore made it to city wide and i'm happy cause that such an success because last year i felt dissappointed cause I did a documentary and didn't win. Cause it was like my first time and my topic was HIV and AIDS and I had enough information I just chose the wrong person to work with but I really believe If I would have studied that project by myself I would have got very far but that's okay. This year was also kinda hard I think we didn't have enough time so it was kinda hecked so next year hopefully we will be ready and prepared so really in the process last year was better we had enough time and went to the National Constitution center this year we didn't but i still enjoyed our project and our presentation went really well so i hope we win world wide cause we're working hard me Derelle, and Porsha. 123

Blum stock essonomy questions1-6

Describe what happened at the end of the night when bigger drove Mary and Jan home? He dropped Jan off at 46th street and he drove Mary home........ She was so drunk so was he. He had to take her to her room cause she was so drunk she couldn't make it up the stairs.

What do you think could of happened next? He could of let her find her own way to her room to avoid trouble or help her and put her in the bed but leave as fast as he can instead of trying to make out with her.

Could this have happened in 2008 today? Yes cause lots of people don't have no intentions on accidentally killing people but it happens anyway.

What do you see as other possible out comes? When they were all at the restaurant they shouldn't been drinking any alcohol that would of been less trouble.

Can you see a possible solution to Mary's murder? No cause bigger took it too far instead of just telling somebody it was accident, but no he put her body and evidence in the furnance I mean that was just so mean and cruel and by far one of the most brutal kill's I've ever read about, he must of really hated her cause she made him like a little kid cause he wasn't educated enough to understand where she was coming from cause she would ask him these little simple questions and he would stop and look and keep doing what he was doing and just think to himself and say what does she mean about man that girl is really crazy.

How would you feel if you accidentally killed someone?
I would be really scared but I would turn myself in because if I don't, the fact that I killed someone it would stay on my mind for the rest of my life and I would feel ashamed and miserable because when you take someone's life there's no coming back from that I mean once their dead their dead you can't bring them back and say oh my god it was an accident or I didn't mean to cause you can't so why not use your first mind and try to avoid things like that so you could live a good life and stay out of trouble. Cause when he drove her home he thought okay she's drunk and I'll let her find her way but no she started to stumble a little bit so he started to help her and all of a sudden her Mrs. Dalton walks in and he covers her face with a pillow like dumb are just so her mom wouldn't notice that anyone else was in that room he could at least covered her mouth with his hands so she wouldn't be able to say anything.

English(Native son) Chpt.4"Yessum"

In this chapter bigger goes to meet with Mr.Dalton for a job. I title this chapter "yessum" because of the nervousness of bigger when he was being interviewed every question he answered "yessum"

- I think Richard Wright was trying to tell how blacks changed when they get around whites.
Maybe cause they were too intimidated by whites cause they weren't educated enough as they whites were but that wasn't the fact at all cause if you have support or if you believe in your self and your determined you will make it!

Chapter 2 (Native son)

Chapter 2

Was what Bigger heard about rich whit people really true? Was he going to work for people like they saw in the movies?

Okay bigger finally makes a decision whether he’s going to take the job or dig up 20 to spend on a movie to help ease his growing fears of robbing old blum. Him and Jack met up and went to the movie theater, and they masturbate while watching it and thinking of their girlfriends. After that, they discuss Bigger’s upcoming job interview with Mr.dalton. Bigger was so stupid he said he would rather go to jail than take a job through the relief agency. Then all of a sudden this newsreel begins,  showing the young daughter of wealthy families playing on the beach in Florida. The thing that really caught bigger’s ,eye was Mary Dalton as she kisses a handsome man, well know as radical.

Analysis:

In this chapter, I see that most popular cultures serves as a release for bigger away to help him forget his misery but that it also serves as a form or inoctrination.

Chapter 1  “Wake up”

Brrrrrrrrrrrriiiiiiiiiiiing

“An alarm clock changed in the dark and silent room”

This chapter is based on waking everyone up that lives in bigger Thomas house. It is a dark a cluttered room which everyone slept,  in and when one person got dressed the others had to turn their heads. I think that this chapter also is trying to wake up the society, which was letting them look at a reflection of how they looked and how their kids were involve with troubled neighborhood. I think it’s basiclly telling everyone to wake up and try harder do better for their self and their family.

NHD Topic Essay

My topic for this years NHD conflict and compromise is little rock nine central high school and the main reason why I chose this topic is because the topic seemed really interesting and exciting. Plus there's a lot of things I want to know like when did this situation occurred and why did it happen? And will people of different racist's ever learn to love one another as a equal instead of coursing, fighting, and hurting each other. So that's what really made me want to gather information on this topic cause once I read up on it, it was kind of similar to the Ruby Bridges story to where she had to go to this racist school where the white people didn't want colored kids there and how they were separated from each other. Well that's how the little rock 9 central high school case the only difference was in their case it was 9 colored kids who wanted to attend this school, but were denied. Once they got the chance they were separate in different classes because the white kids didn't want to be in the same class as the colored kids so basically they were split up and, everyday those 9 colored kids had to enter school facing other kids which holding up racist signs and yell at them spit on them and create lots of negative energy towards the colored kids. Coming from little rock, Arkansas I would of never though that people out there would be racist, because it seemed like that type stuff was going on in Alabama, Georgia, and Mississippi. So I was kind of shocked to read up on that but that's what took me by storm and I said I'm going to share my knowledge of this topic to the Constitution center because it's such a great topic that's why I picked it. During my research time on this topic I hoped to find out who were the nine kids and their parents and how did they feel when the disaster happened and what do they have to say about it. Really I want to know where are they now and how hard was it for them to over come it, and when they went to court what was the judge reaction to the case. The things I'm going to focus on to get through this NHD, is lots of research go to libraries and spin more time after school!!!
